At long last, the decision has been finalized. Jalen Hurts will be Oklahoma's starting quarterback in 2019.

After transferring from Alabama after the 2018 campaign concluded, Hurts was named the Sooners' starter by head coach Lincoln Riley.

The Sooners open up their season in less than two weeks, so it was high time that Riley decided on the starter, though he typically waits until mid-to-late August until making his official decision.

Highly-touted freshman upstart Spencer Rattler was competing against Hurts for the starting role, and while Rattler boasts tremendous upside, he'll have to wait a bit longer before being handed the reins.

Hurts, a senior, will now have one last shot to prove himself after losing the starting job to Tua Tagovailoa at Alabama despite amassing a quality resume as a starter. He totaled 5,629 passing yards and 48 touchdowns while completing 62.9% of his passes throughout his career in Tuscaloosa.

Considering that Lincoln Riley and the Sooners have produced two consecutive Heisman-winning quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, there's undoubtedly no better system for him to be in heading into this year.

He's got the job, and he's got the chance to prove his doubters wrong. His first challenge will come at the hands of the Houston Cougars on Sept 1.
