Finishing in eighth place this year in Serie A, Lazio needs a win in the match to qualify for European competition, with a berth in the UEFA Europa League playoff round coming with the victory.

Atalanta finished fourth in the league this season, earning them a spot in the UEFA Champions League for 2019-20. A win by the Northern Italian side would hand seventh-place Torino a Europa League spot.

The squads met in league competition as recently as May 5, with Atalanta prevailing 3-1 in the Italian capital. The same Atalanta side won 1-0 at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia on December 17.

A third win this season over the Roman side would give Atalanta their first major trophy since winning the cup in 1963. Lazio are certainly the more decorated team historically, having won the competition as recently as 2013.
