Latest Report on Alex Reyes' Return From Injury is Extremely Bleak
By Michael Luciano

After years of hype and a dazzling stint in 2016 as a 21-year-old, St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Alex Reyes has barely seen the field in the last three years, as a tsunami of injuries have limited him to just five games since 2016.
Cardinals fans hoping for some good news about their former top prospect are going to be sorely disappointed on Wednesday.
Reyes threw a bullpen session earlier this week, but will fly back to St. Louis and meet with team doctors after he claimed that pain hadn't ceased.
Alex Reyes is headed to St Louis to meet with team physicians there as pain will not subside in his pec/shoulder area. Arm did not respond to bullpen session earlier this week, says Shildt. #cardinals

In 2016, Reyes went 4-1 with a 1.57 ERA in 12 games. Since then, however, literally everything that could have gone wrong has.
Reyes underwent Tommy John surgery in 2017 and tore his lat in 2018, the latter ending his season after only one start. After being shelled to the tune of a 15.00 ERA in four games, Reyes was optioned to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, where his injury troubles once again cropped up.
This is so sad. I have a feeling this kid is not going to live up to the promise we all expected.

At this point, the Cardinals need to have a long, hard look in the mirror and decide if it's worth keeping Reyes on board following yet another setback.
