Is Lane Kiffin on the verge of making his return to the SEC?

According to Bruce Feldman, the Florida Atlantic head coach has emerged as the favorite to take over coaching duties at Ole Miss. Feldman reports that it's possible a deal could be finalized as early as Saturday.

Ole Miss fired Matt Luke after three seasons, during which he logged a 15-21 record and failed to lead the Rebels to a bowl game. After going 4-8 in 2019, Luke was ousted, and now it looks as if Kiffin could be the man to take over in his stead.

Kiffin has held four different head coaching gigs. He was the Oakland Raiders head coach in 2007-08, before joining the Tennessee Volunteers in 2009. He left the Vols after just one season to take over at USC, where he coached three and a half seasons. Kiffin's next head coaching opportunity came when he joined Florida Atlantic in 2017.

The 44-year-old was Alabama's offensive coordinator prior to accepting the head coaching role at FAU.

In eight years as a college head coach, Kiffin has amassed a 60-34 record. Perhaps Ole Miss feels he's the most experienced option to help the team become competitive in the SEC once again.
