After not playing a single game for the Los Angeles Lakers so far this season due to an ACL injury, Demarcus Cousins was waived by the team on Sunday in order to make room for Markieff Morris, who the team hopes can play a meaningful role down the stretch.

Despite the Lakers letting Cousins go, according to Shams Charania, mutual interest remains between the two parties to possibly reunite in the offseason.

According to Charania, Cousins, despite being released, has remained around the team and has been using its facilities to rehab his ACL. He can't fly on the team plane to games and sit on the bench during games, but the Lakers have shown him a courtesy in providing top tier treatment for his ailing knee.

Hopefully that will help in the team's pursuit of him this offseason.

Cousins was fresh off signing a one-year, $3.5 million deal with the team when he tore his ACL during a workout over the summer.

If Cousins returns as the player he was, despite his injury-plagued past, he could be a valuable piece for the Lakers who looked primed to possibly make a run to the NBA Finals this year, and for years to come.
