It looks like LeBron James could be bringing a familiar face to LA.

For some reason.

According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports, the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to go after guard J.R. Smith when he becomes a free agent once the Cleveland Cavaliers trade him, which they are working to do.

Smith has a partially guaranteed contract for next season, which is why Cleveland is trying to get rid of him. Whenever Smith is moved and eventually waived, the Lakers are expected to go after the veteran guard.

Smith played with LeBron during the four seasons they were in Cleveland together, including the one year the Cavaliers won an NBA title. Smith is a Rich Paul client, so it appears to be a logical fit for him in LA with his good friend LeBron...if we ignore the most meme-able moment of the past decade of NBA action, that is.

The 33-year-old played in only 11 games (four starts) for the Cavs last season, averaging 6.7 points on 34.2% shooting.
