Lakers Allowing LeBron James to Play vs Trail Blazers Barring Any Setbacks is Still a Bad Decision

LeBron James has been a man on a mission in 2019.

The 17-year veteran is in the midst of yet another classic season, averaging 25.7 points, 7.6 rebounds and an awe-inspiring 10.6 assists per game. However, James recently had a flare up with a groin injury that has bothered him throughout his time with the Lakers. While James admitted to re-injuring himself against the Clippers on Christmas Day, reports are suggesting that he will still suit up in the team's matchup with the Trailblazers on Saturday evening.

While LeBron's dedication towards returning to the court is admirable to say the least, it may not be in the best interest of the team. With a Top 4 seed in the West seemingly locked in, the Lakers are going to need James healthy if they hope to contend for a championship this spring. By rushing him back from such a sensitive injury, it's possible that James could be setting himself up for re-injury once again, perhaps something even more serious.

While it's easy to see why a player like The King may want to power through an injury like this, the fact of the matter is that he is soon to be 35 years old with over 47,000 minutes logged. As much as he may want to return for the sake of his team, it would be in everyone's best interests for James to focus on "load management" at this stage in the season.

This LA team is built to compete for an NBA Finals crown. They'll need James to be at his best when it really matters.
