Two teams with a long road towards contention are apparently looking to be active at the trade deadline, and they could end up striking a deal with one another.

According to reports, the Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks have held discussions recently regarding a possible trade involving Terry Rozier and Julius Randle.

Other names who have cropped up in the discussion include Hornets guard Malik Monk and Knicks point guard Dennis Smith Jr.

Both Randle and Rozier stand as their team's respective marquee offseason acquisitions. However, based on recent discussions, they are both at risk of being shipped off prior to their first season in their new city coming to an end.

Rozier signed a three-year, $58 million deal with Charlotte this offseason, while Randle inked a three-year, $62.1 million contract with the Knicks.

On the season, Rozier is averaging 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game while shooting 39.1% from beyond the arc. The 25-year-old could represent an attractive fit as the point guard of the future for the Knicks, who have also been linked to D'Angelo Russell of late.

Randle, on the other hand, has put up season averages of 18.9 points, 9.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Also 25 years old, the Kentucky product has been a journeyman throughout his career in the league, and could be on the move once more in just a couple of days.
