The New York Knicks have been an absolute, unmitigated dumpster fire over the last year and a half, as former Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale failed to turn them around despite the fact they signed a parade of proven veterans in free agency.

After starting off the season a pitiful 4-18, Fizdale and top assistant Keith Smart have been fired.

Fizdale, a longtime assistant on the Big 3 Miami Heat, coached the Grizzlies for a season and change. After leading Memphis to the playoffs in 2017, Fizdale was fired after starting the following season 7-12.

His Knicks tenure was a joke, to be extremely generous. Fizdale won just 21 of a potential 104 games as Knicks head coach. While the record can be excused to a degree given the dearth of talent he was handed at any given time, Fizdale still seemingly didn't have a plan in place for this young roster.

Players would start and play 40 minutes one game and then play mop-up duty in the next. Starting lineups appeared to be picked out of a hat. Ultimately, however, the lack of effort in the last few days is what likely doomed Fizdale in New York.

Fizdale is well-respected in the league, meaning it's not inconceivable for him to land an assistant coaching job at some point, but his disastrous Knicks tenure is a massive stain on his head coaching resume.
