Plenty of NBA trades and signings became official on Sunday. Perhaps the biggest transaction to be recognized by the league was Kevin Durant joining the Brooklyn Nets. After it became official, Durant announced his decision to change his number from 35 to 7.

Many were confused about why Durant would part ways with his career-long number, and Durant provided a detailed explanation late Sunday.

Durant expressed what the simple No. 35 brought to himself and his family. It started off as a tribute to someone who had a significant impact on his life. He wore that number while playing at the University of Texas, and continued during his time with the Seattle SuperSonics, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Golden State Warriors.

While it made him a two-time NBA Champion (and Finals MVP), 10-time All-Star, and the 2014 NBA MVP, Durant decided it was time to switch things up, and opted to choose the No. 7, leaving the mark he carried throughout many of his greatest days in the dust.

So to all those fans who bought custom No. 35 Nets jerseys, it's time to dish out additional money for Kevin Durant's official No. 7 jersey. Trust me: It'll become just as meaningful.
