Justin Verlander is an established star and a future Hall of Famer, but that doesn't mean he can say anything without getting a talking to.

This week, Verlander made some critical comments about the league and said that the baseball's are juiced, leading to a massive increase in home runs this season.

He's free to say whatever he wants, but MLB's chief baseball officer and Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre called him into an office and talked to him directly about his comments.

"Man, I just got chewed out," Verlander said to his teammate Gerrit Cole upon exiting the meeting. Yeah, I'd say that Torre didn't like what Verlander was saying, whether it was true or false.

The ball does seem different this year, but Verlander's statement about the ball certainly led to a response by one of the higher-ups.

"If any other $40-billion company bought out a $400-million company and the product changed dramatically, it's not a guess as to what happened. We all know what happened," Verlander said. "(Commissioner Rob) Manfred ... said we want more offense. All of a sudden he comes in, the balls are juiced? It's not coincidence. We're not idiots."

Commissioner Rob Manfred did come out and say nothing with the baseball has changed, but that the league is concerned about the home run spike, as teams are on pace to easily surpass the previous record.
