Julio Jones may be close to becoming a Falcon for the foreseeable future.

The superstar wide receiver's agent, Jimmy Sexton, is reportedly heading to Atlanta to negotiate a new deal. The goal is apparently to lock things up this week.

Jones is entering the final two years of a five-year deal worth over $71 million. He's slated to earn $21 million by the end of the 2020 season, which is a criminal underpayment when his production is taken into consideration.

He's undoubtedly been one of the best receivers in the NFL for the past five years. Jones has topped 1,400 receiving yards every year since 2014, averaging a ridiculous 103.8 yards per game during that time. He's also got 51 career touchdowns to boot.

The 30-year-old superstar is also Matt Ryan's favorite receiver on the field. He's led the Falcons in targets every season since 2014. Locking him up means keeping the star quarterback and former MVP happy and comfortable, while also maintaining the pinnacle of their offense.

It's imperative that they extend Jones, and both sides have expressed interest in getting a deal done. He's the lifeblood of the offense and replacing him is next to impossible.

If the Falcons can get Jones signed and squared away, they'll have the two main pieces of their offensive core under contract for an extended period of time as they try to work their way back to the Super Bowl.
