Jordan Bell Signing With Timberwolves But Warriors Have Chance to Match Deal
By Brian Cass
As if the Golden State Warriors haven't suffered enough roster turnover since free agency began Sunday, it appears one of their young role players is on the way out as well.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly signing center Jordan Bell. He's currently a restricted free agent, so the Warriors will have the opportunity to match the Wolves offer.
Bell had previously stated that he'd like to stay with Golden State during this past season to further his development. So we'll have to see how it plays out if the Warriors decide to match Minnesota's offer.
It's being reported that Bell's deal with the Wolves is a one-year $1.6 million contract.
Golden State's cap situation is a bit unclear right now, but if the reports about the team shopping D'Angelo Russell, who they just acquired from the Brooklyn Nets, are true, it should free up quite a bit of cap space -- certainly enough space to extend a matching offer to Bell.
Bell has only averaged 3.9 points and 3.1 rebound per game during his two seasons with Golden State. Losing him wouldn't be the end of the world for the Warriors, but bringing him back would provide some nice depth to their bench.
