With the San Francisco 49ers fresh off an NFC Championship, the team has looked to keep their core group together. They extended pass rusher Arik Armstead and safety Jimmie Ward to solidify the defense, but they want to ensure they keep their key contributors on offense happy, too.

General manager John Lynch seems adamant on locking up star tight end George Kittle. In an interview on 95.7 The Game, he stated that, “George isn’t going anywhere," which should help some Bay Area denizens sleep at night.

Hearing this should be a relief for Niners fans, because Kittle was a beyond integral part of San Francisco's offensive success last season. Kittle amassed over 1,300 receiving yards on 88 catches, adding five touchdowns in the process, serving as Jimmy G's security blanket, a blocker extraordinaire, and a certified game-wrecker.

On top of his great receiving ability, Kittle is one of the best power blocking tight ends in the NFL. As a premiere blocker and pass catcher, he is one of, if not the, best tight ends in the game. Without him, the Niners likely wouldn't have made it to the Super Bowl, or even won their division.

Kittle's importance to the team will see him rewarded with a huge contract eventually, but these are the type of "overpays" the Niners can deal with. Frankly, they don't want to live in a world without him.

John Lynch and company know they have to extend one of their most important players in Kittle. Now, they just have to put things into action and finish the deal
