Joe Theismann Calls Out Dak Prescott Over Contract Negotiations

Anyone who takes even a cursory look at the film will see that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is one of the league's best young quarterbacks and someone that deserves a new long-term contract. Still, Prescott has his dissenters, former Washington Redskins gunslinger Joe Theismann among them.

Theismann claimed that he would tell Prescott to "take the money", as he thinks no good can come from digging his heels in and trying to negotiate with Jerry Jones.

"If he signs a five-year contract at $34 million, that’s $170 million and probably $115-20 of it is guaranteed," Theismann said on CBS Sports Radio. "What, are you crazy? Are you really, really nuts? Has somebody got into your head and said, ‘It’s worth the risk of disrupting the football team?'"

Theismann later added that he doesn't think Prescott is a top five quarterback in the league and doesn't deserve a new deal.

Even if he isn't a top five signal caller (though calling him a top 10 quarterback is by no means outlandish), Prescott is going to be 27 next season, and he's coming off of a year in which he almost threw for 5,000 yards despite suffering more dropped passes than any other quarterback under Jason Garrett's tutelage. Even without that added context, his numbers warrant a new contract.

Theismann's gripes sound like a Redskin upset that the Cowboys unearthed another star quarterback. Dak deserves his deal, and Jones seems willing to pay up.
