Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen's 2019 campaign was cut short due to an ACL tear that he suffered in the beginning of June. Phillies manager Joe Girardi released a statement regarding the status of the 33-year-old vet, and it doesn't look like he'll be available when the regular season gets underway.

According to Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Enquirer, Girardi said McCutchen will not be ready for MLB action by Opening Day, however the Phils are expecting Cutch back some time in April.

The Phillies signed McCutchen to a three-year $50 million dollar contract prior to the 2019 season. The former NL MVP was having a solid campaign up until his injury. In 59 games, McCutchen recorded 10 home runs, 29 RBI and an impressive .378 on-base percentage.

As the Phillies are looking to compete for a playoff spot in a heavily competitive National League East, it is imperative to get production from McCutchen to bolster the lineup. Last season, the Phillies came in fourth in the NL East with a record of 81-81.

McCutchen and the Phillies will hope this extra rest will enable the veteran to have a healthy and productive 12th season in the bigs.
