Jets Ruling Out Sam Darnold for Week 5 is Definitely the Safe and Correct Call

New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is still feeling a bit under the weather after a bout with mononucleosis, and isn't quite ready to play at this juncture.

Despite receiving most of the first-team reps, Darnold will not play against the Philadelphia Eagles, leaving backup Luke Falk to handle quarterbacking duties this week. Yup, one more week of Falk.

The Jets' hands were forced here, but this is the right way to handle this.

The team is going nowhere fast and has little to offer from a competitive standpoint, but they believe that they have a franchise quarterback in Darnold. Rushing him back and risking further injury would be a monstrous mistake.

Most Jest fans probably don't want to see Falk again, but it certainly beats seeing Darnold potentially rupture his spleen and miss even more time.

The Jets are a comically unlucky franchise, as mono took away their star quarterback for a month and torpedoed their season. Let him rest and get back to 100 percent before making him face 300-pound linemen.
