What would the NFL offseason be without some depressing news coming from the New York Jets?
According to the latest rumblings, the team has informed cornerback Trumaine Johnson that he'll be released before the new league year.
The #Jets have informed CB Trumaine Johnson that he will be released before the new league year, per @MMehtaNYDN. The move will save $3M in cap, while leaving $12M in dead money.

A free agent acquisition that didn't pan out at all.
Trumaine Johnson Contract Details
The Jets signed Johnson to a five-year, $72.5 million deal before the 2018 season. He was given a $20 million signing bonus and had made a total of $14 million over the past two seasons. The Jets will also owe $12 million in dead cap, meaning they will have paid out $46 million of this deal in two years. That's $23 million per season for someone who got benched on a bad Jets team.
There's also a chance Johnson may not get released before the new league year because the new Collective Bargaining Agreement that's on the table and awaiting a vote could help the Jets spread the $12 million in dead money over both the 2020 and 2021 seasons. If it's rejected, however, Johnson will get released before March 18. The players will vote on the CBA this Thursday.

Now, the Jets will be looking for another defensive back to anchor the secondary under DC Gregg Williams.
