VIDEO: Behind-the-Scenes Jeopardy! Clip Shows Alex Trebek Wrote a Football Signals Category Himself

Alex Trebek is a beloved TV personality, but in his (rare) downtime, he is an avid football fan as well. On Tuesday's episode of Jeopardy!, Trebek threw up his football signals like a pro referee, and the idea for the segment came from...well, his own hand-drawn notes. Let the Jeopardy! account explain.

The video not only features Trebek's referee skills, but it also shows how he wrote the category himself. The drawings, the clues, the whole shebang. The long-time host knows his football, too. He alluded to Aaron Rodgers' ability to catch defenses scrambling during substitutions.

The contestants did a serviceable job, getting three of five questions correct. But they'll be glad to know they fared much better than the last time football appeared on Jeopardy.

It's awesome to see Trebek having fun with this trouble, because we know his health has been in jeopardy, too, for the past year.

He announced to the world that he received a stage four pancreatic cancer diagnosis in March of 2019. But 79-year-old Trebek was able to celebrate his good health a year after receiving the diagnosis, and he's been hosting America's favorite quiz show all throughout the process.

It seems like Jeopardy! contestants know a lot about a wide range of subjects, but they clearly don't watch football, or maybe any sport, much to the continued disappointment of Trebek.
