Jaylon Smith has a right to be concerned about his money. His road to a starting job in the NFL has been a long one-- after a standout career at Notre Dame, a serious knee injury led to him missing his entire rookie season. When he finally did see the field again, it was only as a rotation linebacker, and he didn't earn a starting role until 2018.

And yet, when it comes to his imminent contract negotiations, he says he has complete faith in the man who employs him.

This speaks wonders about Smith's temperament, but it also is extremely telling of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Here's a guy whose NFL career has been filled with peaks and valleys, and he still has no problems with believing in the boss man when it matters most.

In his time as a starter, Smith has largely developed into the linebacker most thought he would be pre-injury. He recorded 121 tackles at the "mike" spot last year, had 4 sacks, and forced 2 fumbles.

Smith has quickly evolved from a what-if to one of the cornerstones of a young Dallas defense, and it doesn't appear he'll get unhappy any time soon. That's great news for the fans in Big D.
