Jay Gruden Provides Surprisingly Positive Update on Alex Smith's Injury Recovery
By Michael Luciano

After it looked like Alex Smith's career was instantly over following one of the most gruesome leg injuries we've ever seen, the former No.1 overall pick is still trying to heal up and get back on the field as soon as possible.
Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden claims that Smith is "recovering nicely" and is able to play catch.

Smith, however, is still wearing an external fixator around his leg, indicating that he still has a long way to go before he ever sees the field.

Even with that, it's nice to hear that Smith's condition is improving at the very least.
After using the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 draft on Dwayne Haskins, Washington is moving forward without Smith in their long-term plans due to the uncertainty surrounding his injury. However, he's still attached to a big contract, so the Redskins will have a big decision on their hands if he continues to progress and can take the field next year.
