St. Louis Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester didn't have to step on the ice to garner the respect of his fans on Tuesday night. After suffering a cardiac episode during the Blues' recent game against the Anaheim Ducks, Bouwmeester returned to the Enterprise Center to cheer on his team.

St. Louis fans were delighted to see their defenseman alongside them for the Blues home showdown against the New York Islanders.
"It happened in the absolute best place that it could happen because of all the protocols they have in place and how people responded so quickly," Bouwmeester said Wednesday. "No. 1, they saved my life and No. 2, the fact that they could get on it so fast was very helpful."

Bouwmeester has already been ruled out for the rest of the season, but as is evident tonight, he will always be welcome at home. We're all relieved he escaped such a scary incident relatively unharmed.
