Javier Baez Response to Christian Yelich Deal is Bad News for Cubs

Brewers superstar outfielder Christian Yelich is staying in Milwaukee long-term, as he agreed to a brand new nine-year, $215 million contract extension that makes him one of the highest paid players in the league.

Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez is also due for a new contract given his impending free agency, and to hear him tell it, he isn't going to accept anything less than a monstrous offer from Theo Epstein and Co.

Sounds like someone isn't going to take a hometown discount from the Cubbies.

Baez, who has surpassed Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo as the main attraction at Wrigley Field, deserves every penny that he gets in any new deal. "El Mago" has been an All-Star the last two seasons, and he has mashed 63 home runs while driving in 196 runs during that span.

Baez is still optimistic that he will get a deal done, however, as he claims that he and the Cubs are "working on" his extension.

Unless they want a Mookie Betts situation on their hands, the North Siders will assuredly get an extension done with Baez. However, it isn't going to come cheap, and you can bet that he's going to look at the Yelich deal when deciding what the starting point for his new deal needs to be.
