Jason Witten Has Noticed Major Leap in Dak Prescott After Tight End's Year Away From Team

The Dallas Cowboys are an annual preseason enigma for pundits and fans alike. Consistently in the conversation as a playoff team, no one ever seems to know what to expect from them.

This year is no different. They are a borderline playoff team with a talented yet troubled star running back and a quarterback whose value is a hot topic of debate.

But according to tight end Jason Witten, quarterback Dak Prescott has taken major leaps as a passer in the year that Witten spent in retirement.

This should be music to Cowboys fans' ears. Regardless of how talented Ezekiel Elliott is, the Cowboys' success this season will mostly hinge on the performance of their (franchise?) quarterback, who has to take a leap this year to truly prove he's among the best in the league.

Prescott figures to get a monster contract extension at some point before his rookie deal expires, especially after the record-breaking deal Russell Wilson recently signed with the Seahawks.

Witten's assessment of Prescott's passing ability needs to pan out on the field in order to make Prescott worthy of the money he'll receive. Otherwise, the Cowboys could delve into salary cap hell while stuck with mid-level quarterback play for the next half decade.
