Jarran Reed's Number Switch Signals Seahawks-Jadeveon Clowney Reunion is Unlikely

While Jadeveon Clowney remains the only big free agent not to have found a team after the 2020 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks have continued to express their interest in a Clowney reunion, despite their unwillingness to meet his financial demands.

Clowney might not have a spot for him in the Pacific Northwest, however, if the we take what Jarran Reed just did into account. Reed switched numbers in 2019 so that Clowney could have his preferred No. 90 in Seattle, but the former Pro Bowl defensive tackle just announced that he would once again wear No. 90 in the 2020 season.

Reed's tenure in No. 91 didn't go as well as his final season wearing No. 90. After picking up just three sacks in his first two seasons, Reed broke out for 10.5 sacks in 2018 before regressing in 2019 and managing just two sacks. Hopefully switching back to the old number ends up restoring Reed's explosion as a pass rusher.

Clowney might need to cross Seattle off of his list, leaving teams like the Browns and Titans still in the mix.

Clowney is a rare commodity in the NFL, as he is potential game-changing pass rusher that no one seems to want. With Reed taking Clowney's old number, it seems like the Seattle door is starting close, as Clowney looks for his third team in as many years.
