It was only a matter of time before Major League Baseball suspended Spring Training play. The league has now officially made that decision, with the scheduled start of the regular season additionally delayed by a minimum of two weeks.

The Philadelphia Phillies were playing Thursday afternoon in their final game for some time, and veteran Jake Arrieta was on the mound. In a moment of terrible luck, however, he left the game with an injury as the league was in the midst of halting play altogether.

That is just a rough development all around. Arrieta had to get through his outing and he would have gotten a nice break. Instead, he may have to go through rehab at a time when the league is in a holding pattern.

The game should not have even started in the first place. However, it is hard to blame the league for this injury. It is just a case of horrible timing.

The only positive for Arrieta? He should have some extra time to recover at this rate.
