Entire NFL Should Be Laughing at Jaguars After Realizing How Much They Paid Nick Foles for One Season

The Jacksonville Jaguars signing former Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl hero Nick Foles to a four-year, $88 million contract last offseason seemed like a steal, if anything, given his recent postseason play.

Fast forward to a year later, and Foles was traded to the Chicago Bears for a fourth-round pick after just four starts. Because his contract was front-loaded, the Jaguars paid Foles $30.5 million last year. The trade leaves them with $18.75 million in dead cap space.

Master negotiator, that Dave Caldwell.

Not only was Foles injured for most of the year, but he failed to win any of the four games he started. Furthermore, a sixth-round pick in Gardner Minshew was not only better than Foles last season, but he was clearly better in every possible category. That's not the best use of $88 million.

Foles still comes with a hefty price tag, but the Bears are hoping he can either be a stopgap to their next franchise quarterback or light a fire under Mitch Trubisky, as his play last year made it crystal clear that he is not a guy you want as a long-term starter.

Foles' original deal is already one of the worst quarterback contracts in NFL history, as his instant regression back to the same average to below-average passer he has been for his entire career, save for a few weeks in January and February 2018, could leave the Jaguars in salary cap hell. The only thing Foles can do to shut the haters up is perform under Nagy in Chicago.
