Seattle Seahawks fans are holding out hope that general manager John Schneider can manage to lock in edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney to a new contract. But, we're here to suggest that you shouldn't hold your breath

According to ESPN's Brady Henderson, the only way that Clowney can return to Seattle is if he's willing to take significantly less money.

This latest news update shouldn't be viewed as a shock, despite the team's insistence that they'll keep the door open for him. This past week, reports indicated that Clowney is willing to patiently wait on the sidelines until a team offers him a contract that makes him the highest-paid pass rusher in the league.

Entering the 2020 league year, Clowney was confident that he'd received numerous offers from teams, but that hasn't been the case. The former 2014 first-overall pick has never cracked double-digit sacks in his entire career, and has quite the injury history in his short career. And he wonders why he has no market?

As for the Seahawks, they have fully embraced the thought of Clowney playing elsewhere. The team signed defensive ends Bruce Irvin and Benson Mayowa via free agency, while they selected Tennessee's Darrell Taylor and Syracuse's Alton Robinson in the NFL Draft. Plus, they have $21 million in cap space, which could be used to sign cheaper and more productive edge rushers like Everson Griffen and Markus Golden.

Sorry to burst your bubble, Seahawks fans.
