Jadeveon Clowney Not Being Fined by NFL for Hit on Carson Wentz is a Joke

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz saw his bad luck continue last weekend after he was knocked out of the team's Wild Card game against the Seattle Seahawks. Jadeveon Clowney delivered a blow to the back of his head after a tackle, which resulted in Wentz exiting the game and being replaced by Josh McCown.

The hit was not flagged, even though it seemed dirty both in real time and after watching replays. Similar hits have resulted in players getting ejected and fined, but for some reason this Clowney hit was not seen as dirty by the NFL. The Seahawks DE somehow walked away from the incident scot-free, without even being fined by the league.

This is a bizarre outcome and one that fits perfectly with the lack of logic applied by the NFL in such situations. Lesser hits have been flagged and have drawn major fines. Yet this one, in which a defenseless quarterback was hit in the head while going down, was seen as totally acceptable.

Just like with most NFL rules, this makes no sense. Officials seem to go by a different set of bylaws on a weekly basis and the league office seems to hand out fines without much consistency. The fact that Clowney wasn't punished for that hit is questionable, to say the least.

This hit took place in the playoffs on a player who was already down, and a quarterback no less. Clowney came in late and did so headfirst. That alone is an obvious penalty and an automatic fine. Calling the shot clean is just flat out wrong.
