It's Time for the Mets to Choose Between Brodie Van Wagenen and Mickey Callaway

General manager Brodie Van Wagenen and skipper Mickey Callaway just aren’t on the same page.

Van Wagenen has been giving Callaway and his staff instructions during games, the two don’t seem to be on the same page in terms of player usage, and Van Wagenen’s frustration resulted in him tossing a chair mid-meeting on Friday. It’s time for the Mets to choose between one or the other, because having both is clearly becoming a problem

Their spotty relationship has led to the undoing of an otherwise talented roster.

Van Wagenen blames Callaway and the coaching staff for the team’s poor performance, as is evidenced by his recent outburst. Callaway, for his part, has partially been hamstrung by Van Wagenen’s interference. Clearly one of them has to be removed from the picture in order for the other to succeed.

Keeping both around has brought nothing but mayhem and failure to the Mets this year. For all of the talent on this roster, the Mets should have a far better record than their current 40-49 mark.

Callaway has fought openly with the media. Van Wagenen has fought with Callaway. Discourse abounds. The only way it comes to a merciful end is if one of them is shown the door, and if the Mets want to save their team, then it has to happen immediately.
