3 Moves That Will Get Packers Back to Super Bowl Contention

The Green Bay Packers got the shot in the arm they needed last offseason, as the addition of Matt LaFleur as head coach and the emergence of Aaron Jones at running back helped the team go 13-3 and make it to the NFC Championship game. Despite all of that, their humbling at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers proves that this team still has a lot left to work on -- starting with these three key areas.

3. Replace Jimmy Graham

In his heyday, Jimmy Graham battled for the mantle of best tight end in the NFL. At 33, he showed last year that he's become a shell of himself. In a LaFleur passing attack wherein the tight end is a focal point in the red zone and down the field in the vertical game, an upgrade is needed. One potential target could be Atlanta Falcons Pro Bowler Austin Hooper, who will be a free agent this offseason.

2. Add 2 New Wide Receivers

Allen Lazard has impressed, but it's clear that Green Bay needs to completely overhaul their receiving corps. In a draft class packed to the brim with talented wideouts and a free agent group that sports several potential Robins to play alongside Davante Adams' Batman, Matt LaFleur needs to realize he can't rely on an aging Aaron Rodgers to make magic happen when he's throwing to practice squad guys.

1. Fire Mike Pettine

Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine has been quoted as saying that he worries about stopping the pass first, then worrying about the run -- the complete opposite of the old coaching adage. Well, he did stop Jimmy Garoppolo in the NFC Championship game, but Raheem Mostert beat the brakes off the Packer D so badly that Pettine might not make it to next season. The players aren't the problem, as Preston and Za'Darius Smith proved, and while this move would take guts, but its' the only way to prevent a repeat of that nightmare in Santa Clara.
