Here's How the Yankees Could Trade for Max Scherzer

The Washington Nationals are going nowhere fast. Sitting fourth in a stacked division, a rebuild seems more and more likely by the day.

The crown jewel of the trade deadline is set to be none other than ace hurler Max Scherzer, and the New York Yankees, who are in desperate need of rotation help, have been linked to him for quite some time. Here's how they could get a deal done.

A three-time Cy Young winner who hasn't posted an ERA over 3.00 since 2014 like Scherzer is sure to command a large haul. Fortunately for the Yankees, they have all the pieces they need to snag him.

Clint Frazier would headline the package going to Washington. He's proven himself to be a quality bat at the major league level and would help round out the outfield.

Joining him would be the likes of baseball's 57th overall prospect Estevan Florial and Deivi Garcia, a quality pitching prospect who's posted a 3.50 ERA in Double-A this year.

New York would also have to throw in Miguel Andujar. Third baseman Anthony Rendon is set to hit free agency this year and has practically played himself out of Washington's pay grade, so they'll need a replacement.

Another low-level prospect such as right-hander Domingo Acevedo would likely be enough to convince Washington to ship Scherzer to the Bronx.

It's a massive package, but the Yankees would get control of arguably the best starter in the MLB through the 2021 season.

Such a sacrifice would make them clear-cut postseason favorites for 2019 and beyond.
