The New York Giants and their impassioned fan base will be forced to hold their collective breath upon reading this piece of news.

Rookie cornerback DeAndre Baker, the 30th overall selection in April's draft and one of the few picks the universe agreed the team got right, was forced from Sunday's practice to have an MRI on his knee. The extent or severity of the injury is not known at this time, as it was only revealed that the young DB was feeling discomfort.

Baker came into camp going toe-to-toe with sophomore Sam Beal for the No. 2 cornerback slot in James Bettcher's defense. However, Beal has been combating a hamstring injury that held him out of Thursday's preseason tilt against the Jets, giving Baker the inside track for the starting spot Week 1 against the Cowboys.

If the Georgia product is forced to miss a significant period of time, the Giants will quite literally have their hands tied at the CB position. Beal is an obvious choice, but he hasn't necessarily impressed in camp and is on the shelf himself.

The G-Men, therefore, will be forced into deploying the next-man-up strategy. Grant Haley and sixth-round pick Corey Ballentine are the only other corners on Pat Shurmur's roster, though Ballentine himself has been wickedly impressive thus far in camp.

As always, stay tuned for updates, which we will provide as they are made available.
