It was announced on Wednesday that former NFL quarterback Jared Lorenzen passed away after a battle with kidney and heart issues at the age of 38. The Kentucky native spent four years as a Wildcat before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Giants.
With the news of the quarterbacks untimely death, both the New York Giants as well as Eli Manning released statements about their former teammate.
Statement from #NYGiants:

Jared was a special person, and a beloved Giant. He was an important member of our 2007 team, one that created its own destiny. Our thoughts are with Jared’s family and friends who loved and appreciated him so much, just as our organization and fans did. pic.twitter.com/z6TLw8WeO2
Lorenzen was the backup quarterback on the New York Giants team that famously took down the New England Patriots in the 2007 Super Bowl. Fellow quarterback and former teammate Eli Manning also had kind words for the Super Bowl champion.
“Jared was a great teammate and friend. We competed against each other in college and came to the Giants together. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I will always remember his competitive spirit and his good nature. Jared has left us all way too soon.”

Although Lorenzen's quarterback career was ultimately cut short due to injury and health issues, he left a lasting impact on both the Giants as well as the NFL as a whole. Throughout the day, former teammates and associates of Lorenzen from his time at Kentucky and in the NFL have shared nothing but positive and kind statements about the former quarterback.
Towards the end, Lorenzen's health took a turn for the worse and he was admitted to the hospital at the end of June. Lorenzen's family has asked everyone to keep the entire family, especially his two children, in their thoughts and prayers.
