FSU President John Thrasher Issues Statement on Push to Rename Seminoles' Doak Campbell Stadium
By Scott Rogust

There has been plenty of change in college football following the protests for racial equality in the United States. Chants have been discontinued, logos have changed, and schools have been renamed. Now, a prominent ACC university is looking to bring a change to their football program.
On Monday, Florida State president John Thrasher issued a statement to push for Doak S. Campbell Stadium to be renamed, and asked athletic director David Coburn to review the petitions.

The football stadium was named after Campbell, who was the school's first president from 1941 to 1957. Campbell was credited for the transition of the university from Florida State College of Women to co-ed. Despite that, Campbell was against the admission of African American students and anti-integration.
However, former Seminoles linebacker Kendrick Scott started a petition to have the football stadium renamed. The former 1993 National Champion is pushing for the football stadium to be named after Bobby Bowden, and to rename Bobby Bowden Field after Charlie Ward, in honor of the school's former Heisman-winning quarterback.
Former Florida State linebacker Kendrick Scott has started a petition to rename Doak Campbell Stadium over Campbell's pro-segregation views while serving as university president.

With John Thrasher on board, it appears Florida State's football stadium will be named after someone other than Doak S. Campbell.
