3 Free Agents the Eagles Should Avoid This Offseason

The official start of the NFL league year is still a little over a month away, and the Philadelphia Eagles are one of the many teams we will be keeping close tabs on as they project to be busy early and often.

It goes without saying that Doug Pederson's side is slated for a reboot this offseason, particular on the outside, where Philly needs profound upgrades at both cornerback and wide receiver.

However, general manager Howie Roseman shouldn't fall into the trap of overpaying for players simply because they fill a need. Here are three players the Eagles should bypass pursuing this offseason.

3. Chris Harris Jr

The Eagles were reportedly one of the several teams inquiring about Harris at this past season's trade deadline, but Denver's asking price was just too steep. Harris is still regarded as one of the NFL's best corners, but he took a step back in 2019 and turns 31 in June. Signing the four-time Pro Bowler would go against Roseman's gospel of wanting to get younger on the perimeter.

2. Robby Anderson

Anderson is one of the league's better deep threats, and the Eagles are DESPERATE for a receiver that can take the top off a defense, but the undrafted Temple product is far too inconsistent to warrant a wealthy contract. You could say the Jets' ineptitude contributed to Anderson's shortcomings, but Jamison Crowder waltzed in and developed an outstanding rapport with Sam Darnold in his first year with New York. That says a lot about more about Anderson than some might think. In a pass-heavy Jets offense, the 26-year-old WR recorded nine games with fewer than 35 receiving yards in 2019.

1. Trae Waynes

Waynes is one of the NFL's best tackling cornerbacks, and there's something to be said for that in today's game. However, his coverage skills haven't at all been able to justify the Vikings selecting him with the No. 11 overall pick in 2015. Waynes has yet to register a PFF grade above 70 for a single season, and his career-best tally of 69.1 in 2018 ranked 50th among qualified cornerbacks last year. Philly can do much better than the Michigan State product this offseason.
