As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads across the United States, it's been easy to overlook some of the positive things happening. With every business being affected, professional sports have been halted. Charity organizations and relief efforts are as important as ever, and Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman is doing his part to help his community.

Following the news that the Braves were putting aside funds to help their employees who can't work right now, the MLB All-Star pledged to donate $125,000 to Atlanta-based charities.

He'll be giving $50,000 to the Atlanta Food Bank and Giving Kitchen, and $25,000 to the Salvation Army. All three will be instrumental in helping the less fortunate get through the crisis. His donations are especially needed, as the organizations that help are struggling to stay afloat with a depleted workforce just like every other business in the country.

He's been a part of the Atlanta community since he entered Major League Baseball in 2010, and has been embraced by Braves fans throughout his entire career. Now when the city is in need, Freeman has stepped up and returned the love.

Freeman isn't the first professional athlete to use his platform and wealth for good in such a troubling time. With the virus spreading every day, fans can hope to see more stories about the people who help.
