FOX May Add Umpiring Analyst to Future MLB Playoff Broadcasts
By Jerry Trotta

We don't have to explain in detail just how demoralizing the runner's interference call against Washington Nationals shortstop Trea Turner was in Game 6 of the World Series. If things had eventually fallen a different way, the umpiring crew could quite literally have handed the Houston Astros a world championship on a silver platter.
By any stretch of the imagination, it was one of the worst calls in MLB history, and it nearly saw Dave Martinez fight every ump in sight.
Though Joe Buck, John Smoltz, Ken Rosenthal, and Tom Verducci did their best to analyze the historic blunder on the merits, baseball fans across the country were still left utterly confounded in the fallout. Well, FOX is reportedly considering adding an umpiring analyst to the booth for the playoffs in the near future to ensure that the viewers at home will never be this confused ever again.

This certainly isn't a bad idea, but what are the chances of a call like this ever happening again any time soon?
Let's take the NFL for an example, where complicated and controversial calls on the field are MUCH more prevalent. Former referees like Dean Blandino and Mike Pereira are needed on-call at any given moment.
The majority of settlements in baseball, though some are mind-boggling, are straightforward ones that a Buck, Smoltz, Rosenthal, or Verducci could dissect with ease.

A lot of details needed to be sorted out, but this is an idea that we can get on board with if it will simplify things for the average baseball fan.
