The college football world lost one of its former standout players on Sunday.

Former Texas Longhorns and Ole Miss Rebels quarterback Jevan Snead was found dead in downtown Austin at the age of 32. Police are investigating the matter, but they do not suspect foul play at the moment.

Snead was solid under center for the Longhorns when he briefly played as a freshman in 2006, but he transferred to Ole Miss in the hopes of getting the chance to step into a starting role after Colt McCoy beat him out for the starting job in Austin.

And that he did, throwing for 5,394 yards and 43 touchdowns in 26 games for the Rebels, leading them to a respectable 18-8 record in the process. He went undrafted but was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, he never played a down of football in the NFL.

Yup, 2019 has brought about the early deaths of far too many former Longhorns players. In August, former star running back Cedric Benson died at the age of 36 in a motorcycle accident.

Hopefully the family and friends of Snead can find solace in the wake of this tragic loss. He was taken far too soon and far too unexpectedly.
