Former 5-Star WR Trejan Bridges Told Lincoln Riley He's Willing to Switch to Safety

The No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners don't have much to complain about after starting the season 3-0 and sporting one of the most electric offenses in college football.

There's no doubt that Lincoln Riley has built a winning culture for the program, and that was put on display this week when Trejan Bridges approached his coach.

Bridges, a former 5-Star wide receiver, recently asked Lincoln about switching to play safety because the Sooners are having trouble at the position.

In two games this season, Bridges has four catches for 56 yards and one touchdown. However, his "knack for the ball," impressive tackles on special teams, and character provides hope that he can actually make a successful transition.

The 6-foot-1, 183-pound freshman also has enough size to complement his speed. That combination will do wonders in battles with opposing receivers.

Riley and his coaching staff are presumably considering the change since the Sooners' defense, especially at safety, is the squad's biggest weakness. The unit is vastly better than last season's, especially on third down, however, that's largely due to defensive line and linebacker improvements.

Bridges' willingness to learn a new position on the fly indicates what a selfless, team-first leader he is. In today's world of diva wideouts, this is no doubt refreshing to see.
