Florida Gulf Coast University Boldly Admits to Sending Out Fake Football Offers
By Adam Weinrib

Well, that's one way to run a program!
Not, like, the way to run a program, but certainly a method you can employ if you so desire.
Florida Gulf Coast University is well-known for being the March Madness-wrecking Dunk City on the basketball court, and has even produced MLB star Chris Sale on the diamond. But their football program is lagging behind in one significant respect: it does not exist.
Decorum be damned, FGCU admitted to sending out over 100 scholarship offers for prospective freshmen this year who likely couldn't accept them, what with the lack of a squad and everything. The school maintains that the individual responsible did so without the university's knowledge.
Recruits are getting “offers” from FGCU football. The only problem is: FGCU only has a club teamhttps://t.co/ACOgMUeyFv

"Unfortunately, we have been notified that a non-employee, volunteer with the football sport club has extended 'offers' to come FGCU and play football to more than 100 individuals across the country," an FGCU representative stated on Twitter this Wednesday. "This has been done without FGCU’s knowledge or sanction, and has caused a great deal of confusion to not only the individuals receiving the 'offers' but to others reading accounts on social media."
So, to keep everything straight, that's over 100 offers to join the club football team, but horribly mis-phrased as scholarships to a D-1 program. Not ideal. It also gets...quite sad, when you see some students reacting to them on social media.

Makes you wonder, what other Florida Gulf Coast correspondence is phony? Does Rebecca not have a crush on me? I checked the "Yes" box...
