Death, taxes, and the Eagles bringing back Jordan Matthews.

With DeSean Jackson out for the rest of the season, the Eagles bolstered their wide receiving corps with the addition of Matthews, who played in just one game with the San Francisco 49ers and did not record any stats.

Matthews was a second-round selection out of Vanderbilt back in the Chip Kelly days of 2014, and looked to be on the cusp of stardom when he had 997 yards and eight touchdowns in 2014.

However, his play fell off with Carson Wentz under center and Doug Pederson as the coach. While he was in Buffalo when the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2017, he rejoined Philly in 2018, piling up 300 yards in 14 games considering he was largely signed for depth purposes.

Matthews, for all his faults, can win 50-50 balls, and most importantly, provides familiarity within the Eagles offense.

The Eagles couldn't live with their own failure. And where did it bring them? Back to him. The Eagles need Matthews to put together some Thanos-esque performances if they want to keep their head above water in the NFC.
