The Eagles Owned Bill Belichick and the Patriots in the Michael Bennett Trade

After he caused havoc for Tom Brady in the Super Bowl, Michael Bennett was flipped to the New England Patriots for a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

While the Patriots looked as if they stole an elite lineman from these poor Eagles, it didn't take long for Howie Roseman to be declared the winner of this trade, as Bennett would be in Dallas before the end of the season.

Bennett never seemed to fit in New England, and his play on the field reflected that. Bennett had just 2.5 sacks and five tackles in six games with New England, all the while playing just 13% of the snaps during his time with the Patriots.

Even though Bennett had a somewhat productive end to the year with the Cowboys after a late-season trade, the Eagles picked up a fifth-round pick from New England for basically nothing, and they converted it into speedy Boise State wide receiver John Hightower.

The acquisitions of Bennett and Mohamed Sanu prove that despite Bill Belichick's deserved reputation as an elite coach and shrewd personnel guy, even he is prone to some really puzzling decisions. The Patriots lost some draft capital, which Belichick adores and treasures, for six games of Bennett barely getting on the field.
