Eagles Not Trading Carson Wentz and Re-Signing Nick Foles is Going to Haunt Them | TOMMY'S TAKES
By Thomas Carannante

No, this is not an indictment on Carson Wentz being bad, Eagles fans, so you won't be choking on your cheesesteak while reading this.
Philadelphia hasn't exactly had a glowing start to the 2019 campaign. They needed to mount a big comeback win to take down the Washington Redskins at home in Week 1, and then they fell to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football late in the fourth quarter of their Week 2 matchup.
One of the storylines -- yet again -- from their loss was that Wentz is once again banged up.

But seriously, he was evaluated for a head injury during the game and took a number of big hits.
the #Eagles injury update Monday is that there are no updates, but Doug Pederson still talked about Tim Jernigan, Carson Wentz & more this afternoon https://t.co/HWPiXG7HPx

If this is already happening in Week 2, it simply doesn't bode well for what's to come. Injury-prone players like Wentz never really get un-injury-prone, which is seemingly going to be a problem for the Eagles. The fourth-year QB started all 16 games his rookie year but has missed 13 of his next 39 games (including the postseason) since. During his healthy rookie campaign, he played through a hairline fracture in his ribs.
His injury history even before the NFL was alarmingly extensive. He underwent wrist surgery after suffering a fracture at North Dakota State. Not only that, but we found out last year he dealt with a stress fracture in his back upon arriving to college, which was discovered during his redshirt freshman year.
All in all, the Eagles could have (and should have) dealt him for big value given his MVP-ceiling, collected assets, and rode the next four years with Philly legend Nick Foles -- the man who brought the franchise its first Super Bowl.
"These sorts of circumstances are regarded as flaws in the everlasting debates that sports fans have. Is Matt Ryan really a winner, or is he just a guy who racks up great stats every year? Is Carson Wentz really better than Nick Foles?"https://t.co/7dGJAJjPn9#Falcons #Eagles

It's clear Foles' magic can only be administered in the city of Philadelphia. His stint with the Rams was awful and then he came in to a be a backup for the Chiefs. Then after his run with the Eagles, he signed a big deal with the Jaguars, only to immediately suffer a broken collarbone. The man is 21-11 in Philadelphia and 5-8 everywhere else. You don't mess with divine intervention.

The Eagles will always remain a contender for the foreseeable future as long as injuries don't hold them back, but out of all the tangibles out there, that's the biggest "if" for Wentz. If he remains an injury-prone player for the remainder of his time with the team, Jeffrey Lurie might horribly regret not keeping Foles and getting maximum value for Wentz when he had the chance.
