Dwayne Haskins Was Horrible in Debut Against Bad Giants Defense

As the Washington Redskins entered Sunday's game against the New York Giants, it was well known that quarterback Case Keenum was going to be on a short leash. Keenum had been atrocious, the Redskins were desperately seeking their first win, and head coach Jay Gruden was hoping to save his job. When Keenum underwhelmed yet again, Gruden finally pulled him for Dwayne Haskins.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Haskins in the offseason, as fans wanted to see what the first-round pick out of Ohio State could do on the field. It seemed like an ideal situation for Haskins, as he would face a defense that has allowed 460.3 yards per game through three weeks. However, he couldn't do anything, posting just 107 yards with three interceptions in a 24-3 loss.

It's clear that Haskins and the Redskins were simply unable to make anything happen for themselves, despite the fact that the Giants consistently made big plays available. It was a far cry from an ideal first appearance for Haskins, who did nothing but prove Dave Gettleman right for drafting Daniel Jones sixth overall in the 2019 NFL draft.

Jay Gruden's job is most certainly in jeopardy right now, so he'll need Haskins to have far better days than this one in the future. This will likely happen when star rookie wideout Terry McLaurin and guard Brandon Scherff are available. Until then, Haskins will need to put this performance behind him posthaste.
