Most of us interpreted Drew Brees' Instagram post a few weeks back as an indicator that he would not only be back in the NFL next season in an attempt to build on his records, but would most likely be returning to New Orleans to continue to take care of unfinished business.

Now, according to league insider Ian Rapoport, it seems Brees doesn't intend to break the bank this time around, either, taking a page from the Tom Brady playbook in order to stay with his team.

Brees is likely to hold off on demanding the biggest payday possible with an eye toward allowing New Orleans to sign an extra impact free agent with the money saved.

Rapoport expects the deal to land in a similar place to his most recent contract, which came with a $25 million annual price tag.

When Brees posted his 2020 return announcement, it appeared he was in a contemplative state.

Now, all that thinking has clearly led him right back to where he started, complete with the knowledge that what's best for the team trumps what's best for the bank account.
