Dolphins pass-rusher Shaquil Barrett announces his retirement out of nowhere

This is not what Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was hoping for with camp almost here. Seemingly out of nowhere, veteran outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett has decided to hang up his cleats and retire.
Barrett signed with Miami this offseason to help out with things up front - both Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb are starting off camp on the PUP list. Now, the Miami defense will need to find someone to help fill the void with Barrett not suiting up in 2024.

This puts even more pressure on first-round pick Chop Robinson to play above his years this fall. Barrett has decided to spend more time with his family and Miami teammates are wishing him well. Still, this is a bit of a blow for new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
