The Broncos Are One Move Away From Winning the Offseason

For the first time since winning Super Bowl 50 in 2016, the Denver Broncos have some real hope. The team appears to have their answer under center in Drew Lock, and added weapons in Melvin Gordon, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler to help him out. But while the offense has the chance to be explosive out at Mile High, the Broncos could use some help on the defensive side of the ball, particularly in the secondary.

If Denver wants to be crowned the unofficial "NFL Offseason Champions," they must sign former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Darqueze Dennard.

The Broncos were hurt at the cornerback position after the team refused to re-up with stud Chris Harris Jr. You can't necessarily fault them, however, because they essentially had to choose between Harris or safety Justin Simmons; they put the franchise tag on Simmons with the intent of locking him down in Denver later on, and the cost was allowing Harris to walk to the rival Los Angeles Chargers in free agency.

Denver did trade for former Jacksonville Jaguar AJ Bouye, but he's going to need some help on the other side of the field. This is an AFC West division that contains dominant receivers like Tyreek Hill, Keenan Allen, and exciting rookie Henry Ruggs III, so adding Dennard will help head coach Vic Fangio in creating schemes to limit high-flying passing attacks.

Last season, Dennard was one of the better cover corners in the entire league. In nine games, he allowed just 18 receptions, 174 yards, and a touchdown on 33 targets. That's impressive, especially considering that he played against receivers like Odell Beckham Jr., JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Jarvis Landry in the AFC North.

Denver is just one cornerback signing away from being playoff contenders in 2020. The Broncos need to ink Dennard to a deal quickly, before they're left choosing from the likes of Eli Apple or Trumaine Johnson. Trust us, Denver, you don't want that.
