The luster of the XFL may already be showing some rust after one week. According to the Washington Post, attendance the D.C. Defenders week two matchup against the New York Guardians dropped by over 2,000 from week one figures.

The Defenders finished last in attendance in Week 1 with 17,163. Week 2 saw that number drop to 15,031.

The drop is suspicious considering the Week 2 matchup came against the XFL's New York based franchise, the Guardians. The draw of an old east coast football city rivalry manifesting in the XFL would seem to be a bigger draw than a game against the smaller-market Seattle Dragons, but that was the case for XFL fans.

After being one of two XFL teams to play their first two games at home (Houston Roughnecks), the Defenders will now go on a two-game road trip to face the Los Angeles Wildcats and Tampa Bay Vipers. They return home to on Mar. 8 to take on the St. Louis Battlehawks.
