Former Boston Red Sox slugger and future Hall of Famer David Ortiz is going to make his first major public appearances since his near-fatal shooting in the Dominican Republic before the Red Sox take on the Yankees tonight.

According to Dan Shaughnessy of the Boston Globe, Ortiz is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at Fenway Park.

It appears what was originally going to be a melancholy evening after the firing of Dave Dombrowski is going to end up being a night for the ages.

Ortiz, who was shot in early June in the Dominican Republic after being caught in the crossfire of an assassination attempt by a local gang, was immediately flown to a hospital in Boston, where he underwent surgery to remove parts of his intestines during his six-week stay.

If this is any indication, his recovery is going exceptionally well.

The roar of the crowd when their fabled No. 34 trots back out onto the field at Fenway is going to be awe-inspiring.
